Cumberland gravel mine opponents to meet with King County officials
The grassroots organization Defend Cumberland is organizing a meeting for residents of Enumclaw and South King County to voice opposition to a proposed 990-acre gravel mine by Segale Properties LLC. The meeting is scheduled for October 13 at 6 p.m. at the Green River College Enumclaw Campus, featuring Leon Richardson, the Director of the King County Department of Local Service, as a guest speaker.
The proposal, which surfaced in early 2024, involves a mine in the Cumberland area near Black Diamond, situated around land owned by the Washington State Department of Natural Resources. King County officials determined on July 8 that the project would significantly impact the local environment, citing concerns such as noise, traffic, and runoff into local waterways.
