Cumbria Robotics Centre receives £250,000 in ECITB funding

The Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB) has awarded £250,000 in Regional Skills Hub funding to the Cumbria Robotics Operations Skills Centre (CROSS) in West Cumbria. Scheduled to open later this year, the facility is a collaborative effort involving the UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA), the National College for Nuclear and Clean Energy, the Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Collaboration (RAICo), Sellafield Ltd, and Lakes College.

The center aims to develop a workforce skilled in robotics to support the United Kingdom’s nuclear and clean energy goals. The project has previously secured £1 million from the UKAEA through the FOSTER programme to provide state-of-the-art equipment. The new ECITB funding will be used to develop curricula, short courses, and teaching resources, while also expanding technical content beyond the initial focus on the nuclear sector.
