Cumhuriyet Kent Meydanı to open in Büyükçekmece

The Cumhuriyet Kent Meydanı, an 80,000-square-meter urban square in Büyükçekmece, is set to open on Sunday, August 30. Developed through a collaboration between the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and Büyükçekmece Municipality, the project is designed to serve as a cultural and social hub for the region.

The square functions as an open-air museum, integrating historical and cultural landmarks such as the Büyükçekmece Municipality Building, the National Independence and Foundation Museum, and the Atatürk House. It will also feature works from international sculptors who participated in the International Istanbul Büyükçekmece Culture and Art Festival.

The opening ceremony coincides with the 104th anniversary of Victory Day and will include a concert by artist Melek Mosso. Located within walking distance of a 1,000-capacity marina, the square is expected to boost local tourism and provide significant social amenities, including walking paths and art exhibition spaces.
