Cundinamarca Authority Reports Positive Reservoir Balance Ahead of El Niño

The Corporación Autónoma Regional de Cundinamarca (CAR) announced a positive water‑balance for the first half of 2026, citing intense recent rains and effective gate operations that boosted storage in regional reservoirs. Storage at the Chingaza complex rose five points to 62.71 % of capacity, while the Chuza reservoir contributed to the overall increase, stabilising water supplies for six municipalities in Boyacá.

CAR director Alfred Ignacio Ballesteros warned that a high‑intensity El Niño is forecast for the region, which could sharply reduce rainfall in Boyacá, Chingaza and Cundinamarca. He urged agricultural users and community water systems to adopt conservation measures and keep consumption focused on human needs to avoid future rationing.

The report aims to reassure residents while emphasizing ongoing preparedness for the upcoming drought conditions.
