Cundinamarca braces for over 2 million vehicles during June holiday traffic surge

The Bogotá District Mobility Secretariat and the Cundinamarca Department Governor’s Office project that about 2.328 million vehicles will travel the department’s roads and the capital’s access routes during the San Pedro and San Pablo holiday weekend (June 27‑29, 2026). The expected flow includes roughly 1.17 million outbound and 1.159 million inbound vehicles, driven by traditional festivities and simultaneous fairs in 29 municipalities.

Authorities will focus on three main corridors – the Sur Highway (Bogotá‑Girardot), Calle 80 (Bogotá‑Villeta) and Vía al Llano (Bogotá‑Villavicencio) – applying measures such as “stop‑and‑go” control, contraflow lanes, and a continuous reversible lane between Apulo and Mosquera on Monday. Soacha will operate a temporary lane reversal on Avenida Canoas‑San Marón, and a regional “pico y placa” scheme will restrict even‑ and odd‑numbered plates to specific time windows on the holiday.

Heavy trucks over 3.4 tonnes are barred from key segments (Chía, Mosquera, La Mesa, Girardot, etc.) on Saturday and Monday. The governor’s office has also deployed drones to monitor critical points like tolls and roundabouts, while a public portal provides real‑time traffic speeds and weather updates.
