Cundinamarca prepares for 2.2 million-vehicle surge during Sagrado Corazón holiday

Colombian mobility authorities activated a special operation for the Sagrado Corazón holiday, expecting more than 2.2 million vehicles to travel through Cundinamarca. The plan includes real‑time monitoring via drones, a 360‑degree data platform, reversible lanes, "pare y siga" counter‑flows and temporary restrictions on trucks over 3.4 tonnes on key corridors such as Bogotá‑La Mesa‑Girardot. Drivers are urged to use electronic toll tags and follow traffic controls to prevent congestion and accidents.

At the same time, the national meteorological institute IDEAM issued a forecast of widespread rain for the same weekend, with heavy showers expected in the Pacific region, the Amazon basin and parts of the Andean zone, including Cundinamarca and Boyacá. The weather outlook adds an extra challenge for travelers heading to family and religious celebrations during the holiday period.
