Cundinamarca regional agency launches climate preparation route with local industry
The Corporación Autónoma Regional de Cundinamarca (CAR) formally started its institutional strategy called the "Ruta de preparación climática" to strengthen the region against an anticipated intense El Niño event in the second half of 2026. The plan, presented at the technical meeting "El agua nos conecta," brings together industrial sectors, private companies and municipal authorities to shift water consumption toward saving technologies, circular‑economy schemes and preventive resource management.
CAR sub‑director Nidia Ría highlighted the responsibility of industries to optimise water processes. The initiative references recent critical reservoir levels, noting the Chingaza dam fell to 16.9% storage during prior droughts. Businesses in floriculture, food, beverage and pharmaceuticals are adopting new operational routes to avoid dependence on costly water tanker deliveries, while dialogue groups including the PRODENSA association, Parque Jaime Duque and Universidad Militar Nueva Granada share methods for industrial water reuse. Complementary actions such as urban greening projects and animal‑rescue campaigns were also noted.
