Cuneo surpasses Torino in environmental crime offenses

According to the 2025 Ecomafia report by Legambiente, the province of Cuneo has surpassed Torino in specific categories of environmental crime in the Piemonte region. While Torino recorded a slightly higher total of 299 environmental offenses compared to Cuneo’s 295, Cuneo leads in the illegal waste management sector with 140 recorded offenses against Torino’s 120, and in the cement cycle with 77 compared to Torino’s 58.

Across the Piemonte region, 1,306 environmental crimes were confirmed, accounting for 3.7% of the national total. This places the region 11th in Italy’s national ranking for environmental illegality. The report notes that while the number of crimes is decreasing, the number of inspections remains stable. In the waste sector specifically, 607 crimes were confirmed across the region.

Legambiente Piemonte and Valle d'Aosta President Alice De Marco noted that the decrease in crimes despite stable inspection levels is a positive sign, though she emphasized that the waste cycle remains a critical area of concern. The data reflects confirmed offenses and may also be influenced by the intensity of investigations and the capacity of authorities to detect illegal activities.
