Cunit beach fatality: 50-year-old man dies while swimming

A 50-year-old Spanish man died on Friday while swimming at Llevant beach in Cunit, Baix Penedès. Emergency services were alerted at 1:53 PM after lifeguards pulled the unconscious man from the water and attempted resuscitation. Despite the arrival of medicalized ambulances from the Emergency Medical System (SEM), he could not be saved.

At the time of the incident, the beach was under a red flag, which prohibits swimming. The Mossos d’Esquadra have taken charge of the investigation. This death brings the total number of fatalities at Catalan beaches to 20 since the start of the swimming season on June 15. Civil Protection has urged the public to strictly follow flag colors and safety instructions during heatwaves.
