Cunit municipal centre cost overrun of €978,688 prompts ERC criticism

The municipal Casal de Cunit project has exceeded its budget by €978,688, roughly a 20% increase over the original estimate. ERC councillors allege that a portion of the work was carried out before the council approved a credit modification to cover the extra cost, raising concerns about administrative and budgeting procedures.

ERC spokesperson Carme Martínez said the public tender originally set clear technical, economic and contractual conditions, but that the execution reports (certifications 7 and 8) flagged disproportionate prices and the addition of structural reinforcement and a compression layer that were not foreseen in the contract. The party claims these new interventions should have been covered by a proper contractual amendment, arguing that the municipality’s handling of the overrun breaches required administrative steps.
