CUP and Aliança Catalana decline to issue voting recommendations for November 29 elections
The political parties CUP and Aliança Catalana have decided not to issue specific voting recommendations for the upcoming November 29 elections. This means they will not advise their electorates to abstain, vote blank, or use alternative ballots.
CUP spokesperson Su Moreno stated that the party will not run, focusing instead on building a “popular bloc” to address social issues such as education and the housing crisis. The party aims to coordinate efforts around a general strike scheduled for November 11.
Aliança Catalana leader Sílvia Orriols criticized participation in the Spanish elections, suggesting that running would “whitewash colonialism” in Catalonia. She argued that participating in the elections in Madrid does not resolve regional problems and serves only to increase the power of metropolitan political parties.
