Cupra faces legal scrutiny over battery defects and high-speed driving charges

A German court is examining a legal case involving Cupra Born owners regarding battery defects. A lawsuit filed by a customer seeks a full refund of the purchase price, arguing that the vehicle's battery issues, linked to a specific recall campaign, cannot be adequately resolved. The court is currently evaluating whether consumers can claim such refunds directly from the manufacturer rather than just the dealer.

Separately, automotive influencer Michael Spegel, known as Gercollector, is facing charges of illegal street racing in Munich. Prosecutors allege Spegel drove a Mercedes-AMG One at speeds of 347 km/h on the A8 motorway. Although the section of the highway had no specific speed limit, authorities argue the speed was unsafe given the traffic conditions and the manner in which the vehicle was operated. The defense disputes the charges, citing expert video analysis that contests the allegation of illegal racing.
