Eloi Rum’s heroics earn Curaçao’s first World Cup point

Curaçao’s goalkeeper Eloi Rum kept a clean sheet in the 0‑0 draw with Ecuador at the 2026 World Cup group match in Kansas, recording 15 saves – the most by any keeper in the tournament and matching a historic record. His performance secured the Caribbean nation’s first ever point in a World Cup finals.

The result leaves Curaçao needing a win over Ivory Coast to stay in contention for the last‑16, while Ecuador must defeat Germany in its final group game to advance. After the match Rum displayed a shirt bearing the image of fellow Curaçao goalkeeper Jairzinho Pieters, honoring the player who died in 2019.

The match was officiated by Chinese referee Ning Ma and featured several yellow cards. The draw gave both sides one point in Group 5, with Germany already qualified on six points.
