Curcumin Shows Promise Against Fibrosarcoma in Early Lab Study

Researchers at Wroclaw Medical University compared five plant‑derived compounds—curcumin, berberine, CAPE, biochanin A and cucurbitacin E—against mouse fibrosarcoma cells and normal muscle cells. The study, published in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences, found that curcumin and CAPE preferentially reduced cancer‑cell viability while sparing healthy cells, and that curcumin combined with berberine offered the best balance of anticancer activity and safety.

All compounds disrupted mitochondrial ATP production, lowering energy levels by up to 92 % in fibrosarcoma cells versus a smaller decline in normal cells. The work focused on the NF‑κB signaling pathway and included follow‑up tests in wax‑moth larvae, suggesting curcumin as a leading candidate for further anticancer research.
