Neuquén destroys 2,000 million pesos worth of seized drugs

Authorities in Neuquén, Argentina, have conducted a major incineration of seized narcotics following the implementation of Law 3488, which decentralized the investigation of retail drug trafficking (narcomenudeo) from federal to provincial jurisdiction.

The most recent destruction took place at the Central Cemetery of Neuquén, where officials incinerated 12 kilograms of cocaine, 25 kilograms of marijuana, and 78 kilograms of cannabis plants. The commercial value of the destroyed substances is estimated at approximately 2,000 million pesos.

Since the law took effect on February 28, 2025, the provincial strategy has resulted in more than 410 raids, over 140 convictions, and the removal of approximately 4,000 million pesos worth of drugs from the clandestine market. Governor Rolando Figueroa and Security Minister Matías Nicolini emphasized that the initiative relies on coordinated efforts between the provincial government, the Public Prosecutor's Office, the police, and anonymous tips from citizens.
