CURIO SCHOOL releases survey results on student inquiry-based learning

CURIO SCHOOL has released the results of a survey conducted among middle and high school students participating in the Inquiry Contest 2026. The study, conducted in collaboration with Associate Professor Yoko Nobumoto of Tokyo Gakugei University, analyzed the experiences and satisfaction levels of 5,914 respondents regarding inquiry-based learning.

Findings indicate a high level of satisfaction, with 51.2% of students providing a rating of 8 to 10 on a 10-point scale. Many students valued the ability to pursue personal interests and connect with external experts or peers. Approximately 64.8% of respondents felt their school environments effectively supported inquiry-based learning.

Despite the positive feedback, the report identifies several challenges. Students expressed concerns regarding insufficient time within school curricula, ambiguous evaluation criteria, and a perceived lack of connection between inquiry activities and future career utility. The analysis suggests that effective support requires a balance between respecting student autonomy and providing structured guidance, including dedicated time and clear teacher involvement.
