Curitiba launches first superarticulated buses to expand public transport capacity

Ten 23‑metre, 194‑seat superarticulated buses were delivered on 1 July to the Rede Integrada de Transporte (RIT) in the Curitiba metropolitan area. The vehicles, equipped with air‑conditioning, Euro 6 engines and dual doors, entered service on the busy Pinhais – Rui Barbosa corridor, which carries about 15 000 passengers daily.

The delivery is part of a R$ 51.6 million fleet renewal programme coordinated by the state’s Agência de Assuntos Metropolitanos (Amep). Since 2019 Paraná has acquired 525 new buses, renewing roughly 70 % of the metropolitan fleet. Amep plans to add another 19 superarticulated units and 27 air‑conditioned conventional buses before the end of the year, plus eight smaller buses for the Piraquara route. Governor‑in‑acting Darci Piana highlighted the project’s benefits for comfort, safety and capacity, while Amep director Gilson Santos noted that the new buses reduce emissions and improve service quality.
