Curitiba and Juiz de Fora expand animal adoption programs in Brazil

The municipality of Curitiba installed two digital adoption kiosks in Shopping Cidade Curitiba (Hauer) and Ventura Shopping (Portão). The screens display photos and details of dogs and cats rescued by the city’s Centre for Animals at Risk, allowing shoppers to pre‑register interest. The devices operate from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays and are scheduled to remain in place until December. Since the kiosks began service in December 2025, nine adoptions have been recorded.

In Juiz de Fora, the municipal shelter reports more than 1,100 animals – roughly 800 dogs and 300 cats – awaiting permanent homes after the February floods that devastated the Zona da Mata region. Shelter staff separated the cats into an emergency cattery and, with assistance from the Disaster Animal Response Group, are caring for the traumatized animals while seeking adopters.
