São José do Rio Preto: Decomposed body found near river

A body in an advanced state of decomposition was discovered on Wednesday afternoon along the banks of a river in the Jardim Felicidade neighborhood of São José do Rio Preto, São Paulo.

The remains were found by a 47-year-old man who had gone to the area near Rua Ernesto Alves to fish. Due to the advanced state of putrefaction, authorities were unable to immediately identify the victim's gender or determine if there were visible signs of violence.

The Homicide and Person Protection Police Station (DHPP) and the Scientific Police have launched an investigation. Forensic experts collected evidence at the scene before the body was transported to the Medical Legal Institute (IML) for necropsy and identification. The case has been registered as a suspicious death.
