Curitiba drainage requests surge ahead of extratropical cyclone

In Curitiba, city council members submitted 31 requests to the municipal government regarding the urgent need for drainage actions ahead of a predicted extratropical cyclone. Of these requests, 18 specifically call for the cleaning or unblocking of drains, gutters, and storm galleries, while others address repairs to uneven covers, erosion, and broader drainage network interventions.

Many of these requests stem from resident complaints about flooding and water stagnation in neighborhoods such as Novo Mundo, Guabirotuba, Tatuquara, and Batel. The requests aim to mitigate risks during periods of intense precipitation.

Across the state of Paraná, the weather has already caused significant impacts. A tornado was confirmed in Piraí do Sul, resulting in the destruction of 20 houses and the displacement of 20 people, according to Civil Defense.
