Curitiba establishes climate budget to manage environmental risks

Mayor Eduardo Pimentel has signed decree number 1710/2026, establishing the Curitiba Climate Budget (OCC). This initiative aims to integrate climate change mitigation and adaptation into the city's public resource management and planning.

The OCC will identify and classify municipal budget actions related to greenhouse gas emission reduction, climate adaptation, and population risk mitigation. The implementation is planned in phases between 2026 and 2030, aligning municipal policies with the Municipal Mitigation and Adaptation Plan for Climate Change (PlanClima).

The program received technical support from the Mutirão Brasil Program, an initiative of C40 Cities and the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy (GCoM). The goal is to increase transparency and improve the ability to direct resources toward protecting vulnerable communities and territories.
