Curitiba expands water storage with new Sanepar reservoir

On 19 June 2026, the Companhia de Saneamento do Paraná (Sanepar) inaugurated a new double‑steel water reservoir in the Tatuquara district of Curitiba. The structure, described as the largest of its type in Latin America, raises the Centre of Reservation’s capacity from 15 million to 25 million litres, enough to serve roughly 130 000 people in the neighborhoods of Tatuquara, Umbará, CIC, Sítio Cercado and Pinheirinho.

The project cost R$ 40 million, with R$ 15 million allocated to the metallic tank. Vice‑governor Darci Piana said the expansion “returns to the population health, dignity and socioeconomic development.” Sanepar director‑president Wilson Bley emphasized that the innovative design, using a double‑layer steel shell and automated pressure controls, reduces waste and eases maintenance, improving overall water quality. The new reservoir also increases the flexibility of the Sistema Integrado de Abastecimento de Curitiba (SAIC), allowing treated water to be redirected to other parts of the capital and metropolitan area when needed.

Mayor Eduardo Pimentel noted that the investment directly enhances residents’ quality of life and supports Curitiba’s status as the Brazilian capital with complete sanitation universalisation. The reservoir is part of Sanepar’s broader plan to reach 99 % water potability and 90 % sewage treatment across Paraná by 2029.
