Curitiba introduces Pet Seguro seal for monitored pet shops
Curitiba has implemented a new municipal law, No. 16.709/2026, establishing the ‘Pet Seguro’ seal for pet shops. This voluntary certification is designed to protect animals from abuse by encouraging the use of video monitoring in grooming and boarding facilities.
To qualify for the seal, establishments must install cameras with wide coverage of bathing, grooming, and boarding areas. The law requires that recorded footage be stored for at least ten days. In the event of reported animal mistreatment, the images must be immediately made available to the technical team of the Municipal Secretariat of the Environment for investigation.
The seal will be valid for a minimum of two years and is renewable. Local authorities stated the initiative aims to increase security for pets and provide peace of mind to owners by recognizing businesses that maintain transparent surveillance systems.
