Curitiba Municipal Chamber faces postponed ethics hearing and mixed public approval

The Ethics and Decorum Council of the Curitiba Municipal Chamber postponed its meeting on April 11 after failing to reach a quorum, leaving pending a case against councilor Eder Borges (Novo) that involves accusations of inappropriate conduct during a photo shoot.

A separate IRG poll of 800 Curitiba residents revealed that 38.3% rate the Chamber’s performance as good or excellent, while 41.8% consider it only regular and 17.6% view it negatively. The survey also showed that 56.8% believe councilors act primarily out of personal or political interests, and only 49.9% think they represent the population’s interests at least partially. Respondents cited health as the top priority for legislative action.

Both events highlight ongoing scrutiny of the municipal legislature’s accountability and its relationship with the city’s electorate.
