Curitiba officially designated as Brazil's “Capital Pró-Vida”

The Câmara Municipal de Curitiba approved a bill granting the city the title “Capital Pró-Vida” in two votes. In the first round on June 30, the proposal passed 26‑5; a second round on July 3 confirmed it with 21 votes in favor and six against, while 11 councilors abstained. The measure, authored by councilwoman Tathiana Guzella (PL) and supported by councilwoman Indiara Barbosa, aims to promote the value of life from conception to natural death, encourage public policies that assist vulnerable pregnant women, strengthen families, and promote adoption as an alternative to abortion. It also calls for educational campaigns and the integration of health, social assistance, and education actions. The bill is symbolic and does not create new legal restrictions, but opponents warned it could pave the way for tighter reproductive‑rights regulations. Religious representatives, including members of the Archdiocese of Curitiba and the Casa Pró‑Vida Mãe Imaculada, attended the session to voice support for the initiative.
