Coritiba defender Jacy Maranhão falls into tunnel during goal celebration

During a Brasileirão match between Coritiba and Chapecoense at the Couto Pereira stadium, Coritiba captain and defender Jacy Maranhão was involved in a highly unusual sequence of events. After scoring a header that appeared to give his team a 2-0 lead, Maranhão attempted to celebrate by jumping over the advertising boards to reach the fans.

In his excitement, he failed to notice that the access to the visitor's tunnel was open. He fell directly into the tunnel, disappearing from view and causing immediate concern among teammates and spectators. While he received medical attention and was able to finish the first half, the physical impact resulted in an ankle injury that forced him to be substituted early in the second half.

To add to the misfortune, a VAR review determined that Maranhão was in an offside position during the play, resulting in the goal being disallowed. Despite the incident, Coritiba went on to win the match 2-1. The event drew international attention and social media virality, with some noting a similar incident involving Coritiba player Joel at the same stadium in 2014.
