Curitiba public transport tender suspended by state court

The Paraná State Court of Accounts (TCE-PR) has issued a cautionary suspension of the public transport bidding process in Curitiba. The suspension, ordered by counselor Fábio Camargo, stems from concerns regarding potential cost duplication and overlapping service lines between Curitiba's municipal transport and the metropolitan services managed by the Paraná Metropolitan Affairs Agency (Amep).

Ogeny Pedro Maia Neto, president of Urbanização de Curitiba (Urbs), defended the bidding process, stating that the model is designed for metropolitan integration rather than duplication. He explained that specific lines are shared between Urbs and Amep to allow passengers to travel between Curitiba and surrounding cities, such as São José dos Pinhais, Pinhais, Colombo, and Campo Largo, using a single fare.

Following a session on Wednesday, counselor Augustinho Zucchi requested more time to review the case. The matter is expected to return to the TCE-PR agenda next Wednesday, October 28. The auction, originally scheduled for November 26 at the São Paulo Stock Exchange (B3), remains suspended pending a full decision by the court.
