Curitiba Gets R$44 million Boost to Add 100+ Hospital Beds

The Brazilian Ministry of Health announced a R$44 million increase in the annual funding limit for medium and high complexity care in Curitiba. The additional resources will enable the opening of more than 100 new SUS hospital beds, expanding capacity for emergency care and elective surgeries. The allocation supports the city's programs “Agora Tem Especialistas” and “Especialidades em Ação,” aiming to reduce specialty wait‑times, which have already fallen by 40%.

During the ceremony, the Ministry also certified the Santa Casa de Misericórdia as a Level 1 Teaching Hospital and approved ten prolonged‑care beds at Hospital Pequeno Cotolengo, with a further R$713 k investment. A new intelligent ICU unit is slated for Hospital Evangélico Mackenzie, featuring technology‑assisted clinical decision tools.
