Curitiba social services assist 5,000 homeless people during cold holiday

The Fundação de Ação Social (FAS) provided assistance to 5,075 people experiencing homelessness in Curitiba during a recent long holiday weekend. The surge in service was driven by low temperatures, with minimums reaching 6.8°C and thermal sensations as low as 2.7°C.

On the night between Saturday and Sunday, the FAS recorded a record 1,703 people accommodated across 33 municipal and partner units. To manage the increased demand, social approach teams were expanded, conducting 804 social approaches through active street searches and public requests via the 156 Central. While 404 individuals accepted placement in shelters for food and hygiene, others declined assistance or could not be located at requested addresses.
