Curitiba water supply disrupted for dozens of neighborhoods after power outage
A power failure on the night of July 14 knocked out electricity to Sanepar's ETA Iguaçu treatment plant, the largest water facility serving Curitiba and its metropolitan area. The outage also affected the Corte Branco reservoir, leading to reduced pressure and temporary interruptions in water service.
As a result, 21 neighborhoods in Curitiba, plus four in Campo Largo and several areas in Araucária, experienced water shortages on July 15. Sanepar announced that the system would be gradually re‑pressurized, with full restoration expected by the morning of July 16. An interactive map and the "Minha Sanepar" app were made available for customers to check the status of their addresses.
Separately, the municipality of Teixeira Soares faced a planned water supply pause while the local reservoir underwent cleaning; service was also slated to resume later on July 15. Sanepar urged residents to conserve water and prioritize drinking and hygiene needs until normal service returned.
