Curitiba's Passeio Público hosts Inverno Encantado winter festival

The historic Passeio Público in Curitiba was transformed into the "Inverno Encantado" winter festival, featuring a holographic Bosque Encantado, water‑jet light shows, interactive installations and a dome‑like igloo for immersive storytelling. The event, organized by the city’s tourism department, runs from 19 July to 11 August each evening.

Ahead of the opening, city council members launched an investigation into the recent cutting of a 27‑metre eucalypt tree in the park. A technical report concluded the tree was removed for safety reasons, citing signs of severe stress and the risk of falling branches, and mandated planting a native replacement. Councilors called for greater transparency, with Laís Leão stating, "Precisa ficar claro para a população porque está sendo feita a eventual retirada de um galho, de ervas‑de‑passarinho" and urging a new environmental‑transparency law.
