Currais Novos implements slaughterhouse regulations and school facial recognition
The Public Ministry of Rio Grande do Norte (MPRN) has signed a Conduct Adjustment Agreement (TAC) with the City of Currais Novos to regularize the municipal slaughterhouse. The agreement aims to address long-standing environmental and sanitary issues. Key requirements include ensuring the presence of an inspecting veterinarian during slaughter, using pneumatic guns for animal stunning, providing protective equipment for workers, and conducting health exams every six months.
Structural improvements must be completed by December 31. The municipality must also resolve a location restriction involving the BR-427 federal highway by coordinating with the National Department of Transport Infrastructure (Dnit). Additionally, the city must seek new licensing from the Institute of Sustainable Development and Environment (Idema).
In education, the Currais Novos City Hall, in partnership with the Federal Institute of Rio Grande do Norte (IFRN), has implemented the SmartEduc system at Gilson Firmino Municipal School. This technology uses facial recognition and the Internet of Things (IoT) to automate student attendance tracking. Developed at the IFRN Automation Laboratory, the initiative aims to modernize administrative and pedagogical processes within the municipal school network.
