Curtea de Apel București upholds journalist Liviu Alexa's victory over businessman Augustin Oancea

The Bucharest Court of Appeal rejected the appeal filed by businessman Augustin Oancea and his company Tinmar Energy, maintaining the Tribunal's ruling that journalist Liviu Alexa's articles and statements did not exceed the limits of freedom of expression. The court dismissed the claim for one million euros in moral damages and the request to remove the contested material. The decision was issued on 9 July 2026 and may be appealed within 30 days.

In a separate matter, Judge Liliana Alexe of the same court alleged that some of her colleagues regularly remove case files from the courthouse using trolleys and suitcases to draft judgments at home, a practice she says is prohibited without the section president’s authorization. Alexe raised concerns about disciplinary sanctions and recent reductions in professional evaluations for several magistrates.
