Curtea Veche rehabilitation begins in Bucharest
The Bucharest City Hall has ordered the commencement of rehabilitation works at Curtea Veche, the oldest medieval monument and former princely court in Bucharest. The project is valued at two million lei and is expected to last three months.
The current phase focuses on securing and conserving the site rather than full restoration. Key actions include repairing roofs, protecting walls and vaults, and constructing a temporary roof to facilitate ongoing archaeological investigations. These measures aim to stop structural degradation caused by water infiltration and exposure to the elements.
This intervention follows previous attempts at securing the archaeological complex, most notably in 2018, which were abandoned two years later. The site, which served as a residence for historical figures such as Vlad the Impaler and Michael the Brave, has suffered from advanced decay and lack of maintenance since its museum ceased operations in 2015.
