Curuçá former mayor convicted of crime of responsibility

Jefferson Ferreira de Miranda, the former mayor of Curuçá known as Tarrafa, has been convicted of a crime of responsibility by the Court of Justice of the State of Pará (TJPA). The conviction was subsequently upheld by the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) following an appeal by the defense.

The conviction stems from the failure to comply with a judicial order to reinstate a public servant, Valtelino Marques Santana, to his position. Although the order was issued in 2018, it was only fulfilled in 2022, more than four years later, following an investigation by the Public Ministry of the State of Pará (MPPA).

In addition to the detention sentence, de Miranda has been barred from holding any public office or elective or appointed function for a period of five years.
