Cusco invests S/18.8 million to develop Pumamarca tourism site

The Regional Government of Cusco is executing a tourism development project exceeding S/18.8 million to integrate the Pumamarca archaeological complex into the Sacred Valley tourist circuit. The project includes improving the Ollantaytambo-Pumamarca road, constructing a reception area, a lookout point, pedestrian bridges, and sanitary services, alongside site conditioning and signage.

According to the Network for Development Studies (REDES), works are currently more than halfway complete. Projections suggest Pumamarca could attract over 300,000 visitors annually once finished, potentially diversifying the tourism economy in the Ollantaytambo district. This expansion aims to encourage travelers to extend their stays, benefiting local transport, food, and commercial services.

While the project offers significant economic potential, officials face tight deadlines. Training and tourism culture activities are scheduled for completion by January 1, 2027.
