Cusco prison thwarts escape attempt by Colombian inmate

The National Penitentiary Institute (INPE) reported a failed escape attempt by a Colombian national at the Cusco Men's Penitentiary Establishment. Security personnel detected 30-year-old Cristian Farid Romero Álvarez on the roofs of the maximum-security pavilions during the release of inmates from Pavilion 1.

Following the detection, security protocols were activated, and the inmate, who is being processed for attempted aggravated robbery, was intercepted. After a medical evaluation, he was placed in a separate area from the general prison population. Authorities are currently evaluating disciplinary measures and a potential transfer to another facility. The incident has been reported to the Public Ministry and the National Police of Peru.
