CuspAI secures $450 million Series B backed by UK government and Jeff Bezos
British AI startup CuspAI announced a $450 million Series B funding round that values the company at $2.6 billion. Investors include the UK government's Sovereign AI Venture Fund, Jeff Bezos’s Bezos Expeditions, venture firms Kleiner Perkins, NEA, Glade Brook Capital Partners, Lux Capital, AMD Ventures and the Netherlands’ Invest‑NL, among others.
The capital will fund the expansion of CuspAI’s AI platform MIRA and the newly launched AI Materials Foundry, a coalition of more than 45 companies such as Nvidia, Meta, Samsung, Hyundai Motor Group, Hitachi High‑Tech and Merck. The coalition pools computing power, data and laboratory expertise to accelerate the discovery of new materials for semiconductors, clean energy, advanced manufacturing and other critical industries. Co‑founders Chad Edwards and Max Welling warned that "if we don’t make progress fast, the next 50 years of industrial progress will be constrained by a single challenge: the world needs materials that don’t yet exist." The company also hired former Apple and Google executive John Giannandrea to help set up U.S. foundry operations and plans to open offices across the United States, Europe and Asia‑Pacific, including a new site in Singapore.
