Customer Service Week highlights importance of journey design and staff support
As Customer Service Week is observed in early October, industry discussions are focusing on the importance of holistic customer journeys and the well-being of service professionals.
In Namibia, rapid digitization is evident in the banking sector. According to the Bank of Namibia’s 2025 Annual Report, the payment system handled nearly 67 million transactions worth approximately N$996 billion, an 11% increase in volume. However, this shift toward mobile applications and digital tools brings risks, including N$53 million in EFT fraud and N$19.9 million in remote card fraud. Experts warn that automating inefficient processes—such as replacing unhelpful employees with unready AI chatbots—can damage the total customer experience.
On a broader scale, service professionals report that customer expectations are rising, with 82% of researchers noting increased pressure on staff. To combat high turnover rates and burnout, businesses are encouraged to move beyond temporary recognition during Customer Service Week and instead invest in long-term professional growth and employee support.
