Customs brokers demand participation in Argentine customs reforms

Customs brokers and foreign trade entities have petitioned the Argentine Chamber of Deputies to ensure private sector participation in any upcoming reforms to the Customs Code. Representing a broad coalition of logistics operators, importers, exporters, and business chambers, the Centro Despachantes de Aduana (CDA) presented their concerns before the Trade and SME Commissions.

The group made three primary requests: guaranteeing sector involvement in regulatory changes, restoring professional licensing through training and examinations, and reviewing the current courier regime. Regarding the courier system, representatives warned of structural risks, including potential increases in smuggling, drug trafficking, and the entry of goods lacking necessary technical or sanitary verifications.

Additionally, the entities raised concerns regarding Decree 70/23, noting that it eliminated certain historical requirements. While the sector stated they do not oppose the simplification of procedures or the use of digital tools to facilitate trade, they emphasized that reforms must maintain professional responsibility, traceability, and robust control mechanisms.
