Customs Officer Fatally Falls During Black‑Labor Inspection in North Rhine‑Westphalia

A 27‑year‑old customs officer died while conducting a black‑labour control in the industrial area of Korschenbroich, Rhein‑Kreis Neuss, North Rhine‑Westphalia. The officer fell through the roof of a warehouse and dropped more than five metres, with colleagues and emergency services unable to revive him.

Police have opened an investigation into the circumstances of the accident, which is currently being described as a tragic workplace incident. The Police Union (GdP) posted a condolence message on Instagram, expressing sympathy for the officer’s family and fellow staff. Germany’s customs service employs roughly 49,000 personnel nationwide, underscoring the role of customs officers in border security and enforcement against illegal employment.
