Customs officials intercept smuggling attempts at major airports

Customs authorities in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have intercepted separate smuggling attempts at their respective international airports.

At Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Bangladesh, the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) detained four passengers arriving from Dubai, Malaysia, and Guangzhou. The seized contraband, which includes 223 cartons of foreign cigarettes, 44 vapes, and 144 mobile phone displays, is valued at approximately Tk17,45,500. Authorities are investigating whether an organized syndicate is operating behind these three separate flight routes.

In Sri Lanka, officials at Bandaranaike International Airport intercepted a passenger arriving from Uganda who was using body cavity concealment to hide smuggled items. Sri Lanka Customs has launched a formal investigation to identify the nature of the contraband and any potential criminal networks involved in the attempt.
