Customs rules for transporting furniture across the Croatia-Bosnia border

When transporting furniture across the border between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia, travelers must adhere to specific customs regulations. The Croatian Customs Administration distinguishes between personal items required for travel and other goods, such as household furniture, which may be subject to duties.

Importing furniture for personal use from a non-EU country may qualify for a customs exemption up to a limit of 300 euros per passenger, provided specific conditions are met. Notably, disassembling furniture into multiple boxes does not change its status as a single purchase, nor does it bypass customs requirements.

Customs officials evaluate the value, quantity, and intended use of goods. Items transported in the cargo area of vehicles designed for freight are generally not considered personal luggage and may require standard customs procedures. The quantity of items is also scrutinized to ensure they are for non-commercial use rather than commercial import.
