Mexico City Airport: Canine unit detects 245 kg of methamphetamine

A specialized canine unit, Max IV, from the National Customs Agency of Mexico (ANAM), successfully detected two separate shipments of illicit substances at the Mexico City International Airport (AICM) in a single day. Working in coordination with the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar), the dog performed a passive indication near eight containers.

Upon inspection using near-infrared spectrometer technology, authorities identified the contents as 245.5 kilograms of methamphetamine. In a subsequent operation during the inspection of international passenger luggage, Max IV alerted officials to the belongings of a passenger arriving from Lima, Peru. This second search led to the discovery of 18 packages of coca leaves.

The seized substances have been placed at the disposal of the appropriate Public Ministry to continue investigations. Authorities emphasized that the use of specialized canine teams is a key component in strengthening inspections and combating drug trafficking in customs and strategic installations.
