Custonaci inaugurates MAC open-air contemporary art museum
The Museo di Arte Contemporanea (MAC) has opened in Custonaci, Sicily, as an innovative open-air museum overlooking the Cornino sea. The project integrates the region's millenary marble-working tradition with contemporary artistic expression by placing over ten monumental sculptures made from local marble along panoramic walkways.
Part of the “Portami il futuro” dossier by Gibellina Capitale Contemporanea, the museum functions as a permanent artistic laboratory where sculpture and nature interact. Featured works include “Albero sicano” by Stefano Volpe, “La porta dell’infinito” by Giacomo Sparasci, and “Memoria e futuro” by Bruno Melappioni. The collection also includes pieces by Gerry Bianco, Giuseppe Cortese, and Nicola Martini.
Initiated by the local administration under Mayor Fabrizio Fonte, the project aims to requalify public areas and enhance the cultural and touristic offerings of western Sicily. The museum is free to the public and is located near the Monte Cofano Reserve and the Gulf of Cornino.
