CUT 38th Anniversary: Chilean political leaders pledge defense of labor rights

During the 38th anniversary of the Central Unitaria de Trabajadores (CUT), leaders from Chile's major political parties reaffirmed their support for the labor movement and the defense of workers' rights.

Lautaro Carmona, president of the Communist Party, and Bárbara Figueroa, General Secretary of the Communist Party and former CUT president, emphasized the importance of unity among social organizations. Figueroa noted that the party's presence serves as a signal of legitimacy for unions facing an agenda that threatens labor and social rights.

Paulina Vodanovic, Senator for Maule and president of the Socialist Party, pledged a firm defense of labor benefits. She criticized the current government's actions, suggesting they threaten social advances such as the 40-hour work week, the Ley Karin, the minimum wage, and unemployment insurance. Vodanovic called for progressive sectors to unite to protect these hard-won rights.
