CUT trade union calls for national mobilization in Colombia
The Central Unitaria de Trabajadores (CUT) has called for a national mobilization on October 14, 2026. In the Guaviare department, CUT president Gelmon Tapias stated the protest aims to reject government measures that the organization claims negatively impact labor rights, public education, and the right to protest.
The Guaviare mobilization is scheduled to begin in San José del Guaviare, with participants expected to march through Calle 40 and Calle Séptima. This action is part of a broader national agenda that includes a planned national strike for November 11, 2026.
Meanwhile, in the Huila department, CUT president Haidy Medina has distanced the local branch from internal national disputes often referred to as the ‘CUT Milagro’. This term emerged from conflicts within the national executive committee regarding leadership distribution and political positioning toward the government. Medina emphasized that the Huila chapter remains independent of these national tensions.
