Cutino Hematology Campus promotes solidarity legacies for thalassemia research
The Franco e Piera Cutino Hematology Campus recently opened its doors to journalists to highlight its role in treating thalassemia and rare hematological diseases. The facility manages approximately 1,450 patients annually and performs more than 6,000 blood transfusions.
Organized by the Franco e Piera Cutino Foundation, the initiative precedes the International Day of Solidarity Legacies on September 13. The event focused on the importance of testamentary legacies to support medical research and patient care. Professor Aurelio Maggio, President of the Foundation, stated that the goal is to improve quality of life for patients while working toward a definitive cure to eliminate the need for continuous transfusions.
Data from the Observatory on Solidarity Wills indicates growing awareness in Italy, with 78% of the population aware of the option and 94% of those over 70. While only 2% have already arranged a legacy, the percentage of people considering it as a possibility has risen to 21%, up from 9% in 2018. The campaign features Rosario Fiorello as its historical testimonial.
