Cutro homicide: Bulgarian national shot dead, local man detained
A 21-year-old Bulgarian national, identified as Sergej Kapterv, was shot and killed in the center of Cutro, Calabria, during the early hours of August 12, 2026. The victim, a local waiter well-known in the community, died at the scene.
Following a rapid investigation by the Carabinieri and the Procura della Repubblica di Crotone, authorities have detained a 28-year-old local man, Giuseppe Sulla, as the primary suspect. During questioning by prosecutor Matteo Staccini, the suspect exercised his right to remain silent.
Investigators are currently working to establish a definitive motive, though preliminary theories suggest the shooting may have stemmed from a personal or romantic conflict. The murder weapon has not yet been recovered.
