Police arrest suspects in separate sexual assault cases in Ballia and Odisha

Police in India have made several arrests following two separate sexual assault incidents in Uttar Pradesh and Odisha.

In Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, authorities arrested a 65-year-old man, his son, and his brother. The arrests follow allegations that the elderly man repeatedly raped an 18-year-old woman with a mental disability, resulting in a four-month pregnancy. The victim's family reported that when they confronted the suspects, the man's son and brother issued death threats. All three suspects have been sent to jail.

In Odisha's Cuttack district, five individuals have been arrested for the alleged gangrape of a woman. The incident occurred near Sukarpada village when a group of men intercepted a car carrying the victim and her male friend. The attackers reportedly thrashed the friend before assaulting the woman. Police are currently searching for a sixth suspect involved in the attack. A DSP-rank officer has been appointed to lead the investigation.
